About HY Global Services

A Malaysian Logistics Team Built for the China–Malaysia Trade Lane

China is Malaysia's largest trading partner, and every day thousands of Malaysian businesses and households buy furniture, building materials, machinery parts, packaging, apparel, electronics accessories and countless other products from Chinese factories and online marketplaces. Getting those goods home safely, affordably and legally is where most people get stuck. Who collects the parcels from twenty different sellers? Who checks that the supplier actually sent the right quantity? Who handles the customs declaration, the duty and the sales tax? And who brings the cargo from the port to your shop in Ipoh or your new house in Seremban?

HY Global Services answers all of those questions with one team. We are a group of experienced logistics professionals headquartered in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, with a warehouse in Klang close to Port Klang, Malaysia's main gateway for ocean cargo. Our core business is sea freight from China to West Malaysia, and around it we have built everything an importer needs: warehouse storage in China and Malaysia, forwarding operations, customs clearance, trucking and final-mile delivery. Just as importantly, we give our customers honest, practical advice on transportation, import rules and customs procedures, so that they can make good decisions before their goods even leave China.

Our HY Parcel platform takes that one step further. It is an online system that lets customers manage sea freight shipments, upcoming air freight services and warehouse storage orders with more speed and accuracy, so you always know what has arrived at our warehouse, what is on the water and what is ready for delivery.

01 Sea Freight from China to West Malaysia

Sea freight is the backbone of the China–Malaysia trade, and it is the backbone of our business. Shipping by sea typically costs a small fraction of air freight per kilogram, which makes it the natural choice for anything bulky, heavy or bought in volume: furniture, tiles and sanitary ware, lighting, kitchen cabinets, machinery, auto parts, packaging materials, textiles, toys, homeware and retail stock for online sellers.

We offer two main ways to ship:

  • Full Container Load (FCL) – you book an entire 20-foot or 40-foot container (including 40-foot high-cube) for your goods only. It is sealed at the origin and only opened for customs inspection, which means less handling, lower risk of damage and a faster turnaround at Port Klang. FCL generally becomes the better value once your cargo reaches roughly 15 cubic metres or more.
  • Less than Container Load (LCL) / consolidated sea freight – your goods share a container with other customers' cargo, and you pay only for the volume you use, measured in cubic metres (CBM). It is ideal for SMEs, renovation projects, first-time importers and online sellers testing new products.

Every sea freight booking is coordinated by our team from start to finish: export handling in China, vessel booking, documentation, arrival notices, customs clearance at Port Klang and delivery. You get one point of contact and clear updates instead of chasing three or four different companies.

02 Consolidated Commercial Shipments from Taobao, 1688 & Chinese Suppliers

Buying from Taobao, Tmall, 1688, Pinduoduo or directly from factories gives Malaysian businesses access to an enormous range of products at factory prices. The challenge is logistics: many sellers only ship within China, small parcels sent individually by international courier are expensive, and juggling dozens of tracking numbers is exhausting.

Our consolidation service solves this. You give every seller the address of our China warehouse along with your personal customer code. As your parcels arrive, our warehouse team receives and records them, checks the outer condition, and holds them until your order is complete. We then combine everything into a single consignment, repack where it makes sense to reduce volume and protect fragile items, and ship it by sea to Malaysia. The result is a lower cost per item, fewer damaged parcels and one clean customs declaration.

  • Suitable for e-commerce sellers on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop who restock from China.
  • Great for homeowners and interior designers buying furniture, lighting and décor in bulk.
  • Useful for restaurants, salons, clinics, workshops and offices sourcing equipment and supplies.

03 Warehousing in Guangzhou, Yiwu, Foshan and Klang

Our warehouse network sits exactly where Malaysian importers buy. Guangzhou is the commercial capital of South China and home to huge wholesale markets for clothing, leather goods, beauty products and electronics accessories. Foshan, next door, is China's furniture, ceramics, lighting and building-materials powerhouse. Yiwu in Zhejiang province hosts the world's largest small-commodities market, the go-to source for gifts, stationery, toys, household items and festive decorations. On the Malaysian side, our Klang facility receives cargo from Port Klang for sorting, short-term storage and distribution.

Warehouse services include:

  • Goods collection – receiving deliveries from suppliers and marketplace sellers, or arranging pickup from factories.
  • Cargo consolidation – combining multiple orders into one export shipment.
  • Storage – holding goods until your order is complete or until you are ready to ship.
  • Packing – re-packing, reinforcing, palletising and labelling for safer ocean transport.
  • Delivery & distribution – dispatch from our Klang warehouse to one or multiple addresses in Malaysia.

04 Import Declaration & Customs Clearance at Port Klang

Customs is where shipments get delayed, fined or stuck when paperwork is wrong. Our customs clearance service specialises in sea freight import clearance at Malaysian customs, helping you navigate procedures with the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia, JKDM) so that your cargo enters the country smoothly.

We prepare and lodge the import declaration, help classify your products under the correct HS tariff codes, calculate import duty and sales tax, flag goods that need permits or approvals from other agencies, and coordinate inspections if customs selects your cargo. If your supplier can issue an ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement Form E certificate of origin, we will advise you on whether preferential duty rates apply. See our Malaysia import customs guide below for the essentials.

05 Cargo Trailer, Container Haulage & Door-to-Door Delivery

Once cleared, cargo has to move – quickly, because ports charge storage and container demurrage after the free period ends. Our cargo trailer service is run by a dedicated transportation team with its own fleet of trucks, ensuring swift loading and unloading of container cargo at Malaysian seaports including Northport and Westports at Port Klang.

From there we deliver door to door across West Malaysia: to your warehouse, factory, retail shop, office, construction site or home. For FCL, we can deliver the full container to your premises for unloading (subject to site access), or devan it at our Klang warehouse and send the goods on smaller lorries. For LCL and consolidated shipments, cargo is delivered on lorries sized to your order.

06 International Transfer Payments & Commercial Invoice Solutions

Paying a Chinese supplier can be surprisingly difficult. Many factories prefer payment in Chinese yuan (RMB) to a local bank account or via platforms Malaysians may not have. Our international transfer payment assistance helps you settle supplier payments so that production and dispatch are not delayed.

We also help solve commercial invoice issues – a frequent cause of customs trouble. Missing invoices, under-declared values, vague product descriptions, wrong currencies or mismatched quantities can all hold up clearance. Our team works with you and your supplier to make sure the documents accurately reflect the goods, so your import process stays hassle-free and compliant.

Transit Times & Routes

How Long Does Shipping from China to Malaysia Take?

Quick answer: the sea voyage from South China (Guangzhou/Nansha, Shenzhen) to Port Klang is usually about 5–8 days. Door to door, including warehouse handling, consolidation, customs clearance and local delivery, most sea shipments to West Malaysia take roughly 12–25 days.

*Door-to-door estimates include warehouse receiving and consolidation in China, customs clearance in Malaysia and delivery within the Klang Valley. Deliveries to northern, southern and east-coast states may take one to three extra days. Times are indicative only and vary with sailing schedules, port congestion, customs inspections and peak seasons.

What can slow a shipment down?

  • Chinese New Year and Golden Week – factories, trucking and warehouses in China slow down or close for one to three weeks, and space on vessels gets tight before and after the holidays.
  • Incomplete supplier deliveries – consolidation waits for the last parcel, so one slow seller can hold up a whole order.
  • Customs inspection – a physical inspection or a request for supporting documents can add a few days.
  • Permit-controlled goods – items needing approval from agencies such as SIRIM or MCMC must have permits ready before arrival.
  • Vessel delays and port congestion – weather and global shipping disruptions occasionally push schedules back.

How to get your goods faster

  • Plan orders around the Chinese holiday calendar – ship at least three to four weeks before Chinese New Year.
  • Ask sellers to dispatch promptly and share tracking numbers with us so we can match parcels fast.
  • Send us product details and invoices early so classification and permits are sorted before the vessel arrives.
  • Choose FCL for large or time-sensitive volumes – fewer handling steps than consolidated cargo.
  • For urgent small items, ask about our upcoming air freight service.
Choose the Right Option

FCL vs LCL vs Air Freight: Which Is Best for Your Shipment?

The right choice depends on volume, budget, urgency and how fragile your goods are. Use this comparison as a starting point – our team will confirm the best option for your cargo.

Rule of thumb: if your shipment is more than about half a 20-foot container (roughly 15 CBM), compare an FCL quote against LCL – a dedicated container is often cheaper per cubic metre and faster to clear. Below that, consolidated sea freight usually wins on cost.

CBM Calculator & Pricing Guide

How Is Sea Freight from China to Malaysia Charged?

Consolidated sea freight is charged mainly by volume in cubic metres (CBM). Work out the volume of your cartons below, then send us the result for an exact quotation.

Formula: length × width × height (in metres) × number of cartons = total CBM. 1 CBM = 100 cm × 100 cm × 100 cm.

What affects your shipping cost?

  • Volume (CBM) – the main driver for consolidated sea freight. Compact, well-packed cartons cost less to ship.
  • Weight – very dense cargo such as tiles, stone, metal parts or liquids may be charged by weight, commonly on a "weight or measure" (W/M) basis where 1,000 kg is treated as 1 CBM, whichever is greater.
  • Type of goods – branded items, batteries, liquids, powders, magnets, food and cosmetics may need special channels, permits or extra documentation.
  • Origin city – inland pickups and cities further from the export port add trucking cost.
  • Duty and sales tax – depend on the product's HS code and declared value (see the customs guide below).
  • Delivery address – distance from Klang, lorry size, and access (e.g. condominiums, upper floors, narrow roads) affect local delivery.
  • Season – freight rates rise before Chinese New Year and during global peak seasons.

What is usually included in a door-to-door quote?

  • Receiving and storage at our China warehouse for the agreed free period
  • Consolidation, basic repacking and export handling in China
  • Ocean freight from China to Port Klang
  • Malaysian customs clearance and import declaration
  • Port handling and transport to our Klang warehouse
  • Delivery to your address in West Malaysia

Optional extras such as wooden crating, palletising, insurance, extended storage, unloading labour or special permits are quoted separately so you only pay for what you need. Every quotation from HY Global Services spells out exactly what is and is not included.

Malaysia Import Guide

Importing from China to Malaysia: Customs, Duty & Sales Tax Explained

A plain-language overview of how Malaysian customs treats commercial goods arriving by sea from China. Rules change from time to time, so always confirm the latest position with our team or the Royal Malaysian Customs Department before you ship.

1. Import duty

Import duty is a tax on goods entering Malaysia, calculated as a percentage of the customs value. The rate depends on the product's HS (Harmonized System) tariff code under the Malaysian customs duties schedule. Many raw materials and machinery items carry 0% duty, while some finished consumer goods attract higher rates. Getting the HS code right is the single most important step: a wrong code can mean overpaying, underpaying (and facing penalties later) or delays while customs reviews the classification.

2. Sales tax

Most taxable goods imported into Malaysia are subject to sales tax at 5% or 10% under the Sales Tax Act 2018, while certain essential goods are exempt. Malaysia broadened the scope of its Sales and Service Tax (SST) from July 2025, bringing more goods into the 5% and 10% brackets, so items that were previously exempt may now be taxable. Import sales tax is generally calculated on the customs value plus any import duty (and excise duty, where applicable).

3. Customs value

Malaysia generally values imports on a CIF basis – the cost of the goods plus insurance and freight to Malaysia. That is why an accurate commercial invoice matters: under-declared invoices are a common reason for shipments being held, re-valued or penalised.

4. ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (Form E)

Goods that genuinely originate in China may qualify for reduced or zero import duty under the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA), or under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). To claim the preferential rate, your supplier normally needs to provide a valid certificate of origin – Form E for ACFTA – that matches the invoice and shipment. We will tell you whether it is worth requesting one for your product.

5. Low-value goods (LVG) tax

Since 1 January 2024, Malaysia applies a 10% sales tax on low-value goods valued at RM500 or less that are sold online by overseas sellers and brought into Malaysia. Registered platforms and sellers collect it at checkout. Commercial consignments shipped in bulk through a forwarder are normally cleared under the regular import procedure, with duty and sales tax assessed on the declaration instead.

6. Example: how the taxes stack up

Suppose a consignment has a CIF value of RM10,000, an import duty rate of 10% and a sales tax rate of 10%. Import duty = RM1,000. Sales tax = 10% × (RM10,000 + RM1,000) = RM1,100. Total taxes = RM2,100. With a valid Form E and a 0% preferential rate, duty would fall to RM0 and sales tax to RM1,000. (Illustrative only – actual rates depend on your goods.)

Documents you will typically need

  • Commercial invoice – seller, buyer, product descriptions, quantities, unit prices, currency and total value.
  • Packing list – carton count, contents, net and gross weights and dimensions.
  • Bill of lading – issued by the carrier or forwarder for the ocean shipment.
  • Customs import declaration – Customs Form No. 1 (K1), lodged electronically by the clearing agent.
  • Certificate of origin – Form E (ACFTA) or RCEP certificate, if claiming preferential duty.
  • Permits or approvals – for controlled goods (see right).

Goods that may need a permit or approval

  • Electrical appliances and lighting – Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) / SIRIM certification for regulated products.
  • Wireless and telecoms devices – MCMC / SIRIM certification for items using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or radio.
  • Cosmetics, supplements and medicines – NPRA notification or registration.
  • Food, plants, seeds and animal products – MAQIS and related agency approvals.
  • Certain construction materials – CIDB certification for regulated building products.
  • Motor vehicles, some steel and other controlled items – Approved Permit (AP) or licence from MITI or other authorities.

Not sure? Send us the product link or photo – we will check before you buy.

Prohibited and high-risk goods: counterfeit or infringing branded goods, weapons and replicas, narcotics, obscene materials and other goods prohibited under Malaysian law cannot be shipped. Dangerous goods such as flammable liquids, gas cylinders, loose lithium batteries and corrosive chemicals require special handling or may be refused. Always declare your goods honestly – it protects you, us and every other customer sharing the container.

Our Location Advantage

Kuala Lumpur Headquarters, Port Klang Reach: Why It Saves You Time and Money

Port Klang is Malaysia's busiest port and one of the largest container ports in the world, handling the majority of sea cargo arriving from China into Peninsular Malaysia. Its two main terminals, Northport and Westports, receive frequent direct sailings from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Ningbo and Shanghai.

Our headquarters is in Taman Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, at the heart of the Klang Valley where most of our customers live and do business, while our Klang warehouse sits a short drive from both port terminals. Having a team at each end matters more than most importers realise. Containers can be collected as soon as they are released, which reduces port storage and demurrage charges. Our people can attend customs inspections in person, solve documentation questions face to face and move cargo to our warehouse the same day. And because Klang sits on the main highways into the Klang Valley and the North–South Expressway, onward delivery to Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya and the rest of Peninsular Malaysia is fast and economical.

Kuala Lumpur skyline at blue hour with the Petronas Twin Towers – HY Global Services headquarters in Taman Cheras, Kuala Lumpur
Headquartered in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur – serving the whole Klang Valley

What this means for you

  • Faster release – less waiting between vessel arrival and delivery to your door.
  • Lower port charges – quick collection keeps you inside free storage time wherever possible.
  • Hands-on problem solving – inspections, re-weighing or document checks handled on the spot by our own staff.
  • Flexible delivery – collect from our Klang warehouse yourself, or let our trucks deliver anywhere in West Malaysia.
  • One accountable partner – the same team that received your goods in China delivers them in Malaysia, so there is never any finger-pointing between agents.

For importers in the Klang Valley this often translates into delivery within a day or two of customs release, and for customers further afield it means cargo leaves the port area quickly instead of waiting in a queue at a third-party depot.

Expert Tips

10 Tips for Cheaper, Safer Shipping from China to Malaysia

After decades in the shipping and logistics industry, our team sees the same avoidable mistakes again and again. Follow these tips to save money and protect your goods.

  1. Get a quote before you buy. Knowing the shipping and tax cost upfront tells you your true landed cost and whether the deal is really a bargain.
  2. Ask sellers for carton dimensions and weights. Volume drives the price – a quick CBM check avoids surprises.
  3. Consolidate. One shipment of ten orders is far cheaper than ten separate shipments.
  4. Insist on strong export packing. Double-walled cartons, corner protectors and wooden crates for glass, marble and fragile items.
  5. Label every parcel with your customer code. Unlabelled parcels are the number-one cause of warehouse delays.
  6. Declare honestly and accurately. Clear product descriptions and true values make customs clearance quick and penalty-free.
  7. Check permit requirements early. Electrical, wireless, cosmetic and food products often need approvals before they arrive.
  8. Avoid counterfeit branded goods. They can be seized and may delay everyone else's cargo in the container.
  9. Plan around Chinese holidays. Order well ahead of Chinese New Year and October's Golden Week.
  10. Consider cargo insurance for valuable shipments. It is a small cost compared with the value it protects.

Frequently Asked Questions About Shipping from China to Malaysia

Straight answers to the questions our customers ask most. Can't find yours? Talk to our team.

How long does sea freight from China to West Malaysia take?

The ocean voyage from South China ports such as Guangzhou (Nansha) or Shenzhen to Port Klang usually takes about 5 to 8 days. Including warehouse receiving, consolidation, customs clearance and local delivery, most door-to-door sea shipments to West Malaysia arrive in roughly 12 to 25 days, depending on cargo type, sailing schedules and peak seasons.

What is the cheapest way to ship from China to Malaysia?

Sea freight is the cheapest way to ship most goods from China to Malaysia, especially anything bulky or heavier than about 20–30 kg. Small loads are shipped as consolidated LCL cargo priced per cubic metre (CBM), while large volumes of roughly 15 CBM or more are often cheaper as a dedicated Full Container Load (FCL).

Can HY Global Services ship my Taobao and 1688 orders to Malaysia?

Yes. HY Global Services specialises in consolidated commercial shipments from Chinese e-commerce platforms such as Taobao and 1688. Sellers deliver to our China warehouse, we combine your parcels into one shipment, ship them by sea to Port Klang and deliver them to your door in West Malaysia.

How is sea freight from China to Malaysia charged?

Consolidated sea freight is usually charged by volume in cubic metres (CBM), calculated as length × width × height in metres. Very heavy, dense cargo may be charged by weight instead, commonly on a 1 CBM = 1,000 kg weight-or-measure basis. FCL is charged per 20-foot or 40-foot container. Your quotation will state exactly what is included. Try the CBM calculator above to estimate your volume.

Do I need to pay import duty and sales tax in Malaysia?

Commercial imports into Malaysia may attract import duty, which depends on the HS tariff code of the product, plus sales tax of 5% or 10% for taxable goods. Some goods are exempt and some qualify for reduced duty under the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement with a Form E certificate of origin. HY Global Services helps classify your goods and handles the declaration.

What is the difference between FCL and LCL?

FCL (Full Container Load) means you rent an entire 20ft or 40ft container for your goods only. LCL (Less than Container Load) means your cargo shares a container with other shippers and you pay only for the space you use. FCL is faster to handle and safer for large volumes; LCL is more economical for smaller shipments.

What documents are needed to import goods from China to Malaysia?

A typical commercial import needs a commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading, plus the customs import declaration (Customs Form No. 1 / K1). Depending on the goods, you may also need an import permit or approval (for example SIRIM, MCMC, MAQIS or NPRA) and a Form E certificate of origin to claim ASEAN-China preferential duty.
